Why Ecommerce Brands Need a Performance Intelligence Layer, Not Another Dashboard
The data exists and it has always existed. Shopify records every order, Meta Ads Manager tracks every pound spent and every conversion attributed. Google Analytics captures every session, every source, every moment a visitor arrives and leaves. Klaviyo logs every email opened, every link clicked, every pound of revenue it claims credit for.
And yet, for the founders and operators building ecommerce brands, this data rarely translates into faster decisions. More often, it creates the opposite — a reporting burden that consumes hours of every week, produces a picture that is already out of date by the time it is ready, and still leaves the most important question unanswered: what should I actually do next.
This is the problem Folta Intelligence was built to solve.
Where It Started
Folta Consulting works with luxury and premium DTC brands, jewellery, fashion, beauty, lifestyle. The founders of these brands are typically exceptional at product and brand-building. They are not, as a rule, drawn to spreadsheets. Preparing reporting for these clients meant pulling data from five or six platforms, cleaning it, reconciling conflicting attribution numbers, and reformatting it into something visually clear enough to act on. Two to three hours per client, per day, every week. At a certain point it became obvious this was not a Folta Consulting problem. It was an ecommerce problem. The specific platforms varied some clients ran Pinterest, others ran TikTok, others relied heavily on affiliate but the underlying situation was identical: meaningful marketing operation, data scattered across multiple platforms, no single view, no reliable interpretation layer.
Folta Intelligence was built to fix that. For our clients first. For any ecommerce brand second.
The Admin Cost on Ecommerce Operators
The average ecommerce brand owner managing a paid marketing operation across Meta Ads, Google Ads, email, an affiliate programme, and a Shopify store is working across at least five separate platforms. Each has its own dashboard, its own definition of revenue, its own claim on attribution, and its own reporting lag.
Pulling this together into something coherent takes time. Conservative estimates put the manual reporting burden at two to three hours per day for brands operating at the £20,000 to £500,000 monthly revenue range. That is time not spent on product, creative, or the commercial decisions that move a business forward but on administrative work that should, by now, be automated.
At a conservative rate of £100 per hour, this represents £4,400 to £6,600 per month of founder or operator time, every month for something that does not move the business.
This is what we refer to as the admin cost. As data volume grows, complexity grows with it. New channels, new markets, new product lines all add to the reporting surface area, the manual approach does not scale.
Why Existing Tools Have Not Solved This
The tools built to address this problem — Triple Whale, Polar Analytics, Funnel.io — were designed for a specific kind of organisation: one with a dedicated data analyst, a media buyer who lives inside the numbers, and an analytics budget that reflects that infrastructure, they are powerful products. But they are not built for the founder of an independent ecommerce brand, or the small team behind a growing DTC label, who needs to understand their business in the time between a board call and a morning coffee. The issue is not the data however it is the translation layer between data and decision.
Dashboards present numbers. What ecommerce founders and operators need is interpretation, something that reads the data the way a senior analyst would, connects the dots across channels, flags what matters, and tells them where to focus before the moment to act has passed.
This is the gap that performance intelligence addresses.
What Performance Intelligence Means in Practice
Performance intelligence is not a dashboard. It is the layer above the dashboard, the function that reads what the numbers mean rather than simply displaying them. In practice, for an ecommerce brand, this means:
Cross-channel visibility in one place. Shopify, Meta Ads, Google Ads, Google Analytics 4, Klaviyo, ShopMy affiliate data — all consolidated, updated in real time, with consistent metric definitions applied across every source. Net revenue always means gross sales minus returns and discounts. ROAS always means conversion value divided by spend, calculated the same way regardless of which channel you are looking at.
Operational efficiency. One of the most underserved intelligence gaps in ecommerce is the relationship between stock levels and advertising spend. A hero product selling 150 units in 10 days while Meta is actively driving traffic to it is a stock-out risk, not a success story — unless someone connects those two data points in time to act. Performance intelligence does this automatically.
Intelligence layer. Within the software lives an AI assistant connected to all of your data points, conversing and making decisions with you. Supporting context that can help you make impactful decisions faster.
Introducing Folta Intelligence
Folta Intelligence is a private performance portal built for ecommerce brand founders, operators, and the agencies that work with them.
It brings every marketing channel into one place — Shopify, Meta Ads, Google Ads, GA4, Klaviyo and ShopMy (as well as other connectors) — updated automatically in real time, with visual dashboards designed to be read at a glance rather than decoded over a morning.
The platform includes eight dedicated channel views: an overview, paid social, paid search, ecommerce revenue, email marketing, website traffic, affiliate performance, and Ask Folta — an AI assistant powered by Claude, Anthropic's most advanced model, that answers direct questions about performance using the brand's own live data.
Ask Folta does not return generic advice or industry benchmarks. It answers from the specific data in the session — connecting inventory levels to campaign spend, flagging when email click rates do not match open rate strength, identifying which paid creative is driving the majority of conversion value and whether the stock behind it can support the demand.
This is the analytical depth that has historically existed only inside larger organisations with dedicated data teams. Folta Intelligence makes it available to independent ecommerce brands and the agencies serving them, at a fraction of the cost.
Our mission is to give creative brands the tools to grow with confidence, clarity and commercial intelligence.
Who It Is Built For
Brand founders and operators running ecommerce across multiple paid channels who need business-level oversight without managing the day-to-day of every platform. The product works for any ecommerce category — fashion, beauty, wellness, homewares, food and beverage, fragrance, lifestyle. If you are running Shopify, Meta Ads, Google Ads, and email, the product works for you.
Agencies managing multiple ecommerce clients who want to give clients real-time visibility into their own performance without building reporting infrastructure from scratch. Folta Intelligence can be configured per client with client-specific branding, channel sets, KPIs and targets — making it a compelling client-facing product for agencies that currently deliver reporting manually.
The platform was initially designed around our own client base at Folta Consulting — luxury and premium DTC brands where the gap between data and decision was most acute. The underlying problem turned out to be identical across ecommerce categories, the product works for all of them.
The Design Philosophy
Ecommerce founders and operators often shy away from their own data. We believe this is not that there isn’t an appetite to analyse, confront and understand the data it is a way in which it is presented and narrated. The tools built to surface marketing performance were built for analysts, not for people who think visually and make decisions through instinct and brand judgment.
Folta Intelligence was built from a different starting point. Every dashboard is designed to be read, not decoded. The visual language is editorial rather than functional. The data is presented in the way a senior consultant would present it to a client — with the most important insight surfaced first, supporting data following, and the implication stated clearly.
The result is a product that founders and operators engage with rather than avoid — one that shortens the distance between data and decision, and makes performance intelligence feel like a natural part of how a brand is run rather than a separate discipline requiring a different kind of thinking.
Availability
Folta Intelligence is currently available to brands and agencies at £549 per month, with all connectors included and no setup fee for the first cohort.
Each portal is configured specifically for the brand or client — channels, KPIs, currency, and performance targets — by the Folta Consulting team. Onboarding requires read-only API access to the connected platforms and takes approximately five working days from confirmation.

A Note on Data Privacy
Your marketing data flows directly from each platform's API to the portal in real time. No data is stored between sessions. Ask Folta analyses what is on screen in that moment and that analysis is not retained, trained on, or shared with any other client or system.
Each portal is isolated by client. There is no cross-contamination of data between accounts. The infrastructure is GDPR-compliant across EU, UK and US operating environments.
